Biography:

Andre is a Research Associate in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge, where his research focuses on tailoring reinforced concrete elements for their specific purpose, while simultaneously minimising their cement content. He is a member of the Concrete Infrastructure Research Group (CIRG) led by Professor Janet Lees. Andre received both his Bachelor’s degree and his PhD in structural engineering from Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. His PhD research investigated the use distributed fibre optic sensors to monitor reinforced concrete structures for the purposes of improving design and assessment. Andre’s PhD supervisor was Dr. Neil Hoult.

Tailored reinforced concrete structures that optimise performance and minimise cement use.

Monitoring reinforced concrete structures with distributed fibre optics sensors to improve design and assessment.

Teaching

Lead instructor for 2nd year undergraduate solid mechanics course at Queen’s University (2016 & 2018).
