Structures Research Group

Biography

Musabbir graduated with a first class degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Sheffield in 2010. He worked in AgustaWestland on variety of projects mainly focussed on carrying out Finite Element Analysis using ABAQUS and Nastran/Patran. The projects ranged from simulating impact test on rotor blades, calculating reaction forces on the bolts in the tailplane to designing armour protection system. He then worked for two years in Romax Technology as a project engineer, in the engineering consultancy division, designing drivetrains. He modelled and analysed drivetrains using in-house software and worked on adding new functionalities to their in-house simulation tool.

Musabbir started his PhD in CSMLab in Structures research group in 2012 under the supervision of Dr Fehmi Cirak. His research is primarily focused on Isogeometric design and analysis, and developing new finite element methods for shells and fluids.

Musabbir's advisor is Professor Holger Babinsky and his PhD is funded by Cambridge Trust. Musabbir is a member of the Queens' College.

Research

Musabbir is interested in developing robust computational methods to model problems related to Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI). FSI encompasses wide range of applications e.g. flapping wing flight, arterial blood flow, vibrating structures etc. Moreover, Musabbir's research focuses on developing methods such that it brings CAD and finite element analysis communities together, which has historically been isolated from each other. He is currently working on developing manifold based finite elements and integrating it with subdivision surfaces.
